For dogs who need time to warm up to new people, I offer happy visits — short, low-pressure visits to your home focused on building a positive relationship at your dog’s own pace. There’s no rush — we go as slowly as your dog needs to feel safe and confident.

At The Joyful Hound, we use only flat collars and well-fitted harnesses to ensure the safety, comfort, and physical well-being of every dog in our care. Harnesses help protect sensitive areas like the neck and throat, provide and support humane, low-stress handling. That said, there’s absolutely no judgment here. We understand that every dog owner makes the best choices they can with the knowledge and tools they have at the time. We are not going to shame you about tools you currently use to feel safe.

Yes, absolutely — and you’re right to be mindful of this. Tulsa does have its share of strays, and leash laws are not often enforced. With years of experience working with dogs in this area, we know the safest routes, quiet parks, and low-traffic areas where the risk of encountering loose dogs is minimal.

That said, your dog’s safety is always our top priority. We carry Spray Shield (a harmless citronella deterrent) on every outing and educated and experienced in techniques to prevent unwanted interactions with other dogs.

Payment is collected on a weekly basis via cash, check or Venmo.

• Cancellations within 24 hours of service: Full payment required.

• Cancellations 24–48 hours before service: 50% payment required.

• Cancellations made more than 48 hours in advance: No charge.

That said, your dog’s comfort always comes first. If we need to reschedule because of unexpected stress, illness, or weather conditions your dog is fearful of — there is absolutely no fee. My top priority is ensuring every dog feels safe, confident, and supported, even if that means adjusting our plans.

Because boarding spots are limited and, especially during busy travel seasons fill up quickly, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your dog’s stay.

• This deposit will be requested 6 weeks before the start of boarding, or at the time of booking if your reservation is made less than 6 weeks in advance.

• The deposit is applied toward the total boarding cost — it’s not an extra fee.
